Default Nemesis & their Debut album "Onneshon"

Perhaps one of the most talented band in BD Music right Now!

Alternative band Nemesis has gained popularity by the days since it is started back in 1999. Their debut album "Onneshon"is has been hailed by critics as one of the best to come out in years.

Nemesis was formed in the winter of 1999. Most of us had just finished our O-levels then and had a lot of spare time in our hands. Our utmost gratitude must be dedicated to Saber, as he was the man who brought this band together. Saber wasn't very musical, he was more into scoring perfect on SAT's and getting all A's.
Saber and Yawar had an agreement that they would form a band after they were done with their O-Levels. A lot bands formed around that time as there were quite a lot of kids into playing some sort of instruments. Maher was introduced to Yawar and this had the ball rolling for Nemesis. We had a drummer, lead guitarist and a manager. But to perform even the most simplest of songs we needed a bassist. Maher suggest that we ask his brother to play bass for us..... so we did ......and so he agreed.

Our first performance was on New Years Eve at Saber’s grandma’s roof. It was also where we practiced. We met Zohad there, he were very keen on doing some U2 numbers with us. For being a first timer, he was pretty impressive.
After the first show we decided that we desperately needed more members, Yawar brought Faria and Fariza to the band. Faria provided keyboards and vocals, while Fariza gave back up vocals. At that time we wanted to approach the public with a different image considering most of the bands around that time were mostly made of male talents. Having female vocalists also gave us variety of choice in the music we performed.
Our first public concert was in Russian Culture Center. We were surfing through a lot of names for the band, but finally decided on Nemesis just before we got on stage. We must stress that we did not give much effort when it came to choosing a name for our band. It just happened and though we wanted to change it after a while, people insisted that we keep the name.

We were greatly appreciated at RCC, it gave us a boost of confidence and we were very eager to improve on what ever weakness we had. We knew we were a bunch of novice musicians at that stage and the only way we were going to improve was to do more concerts so it would boost our performance and confidence.
There are times when bands face set backs, it happens with even the big names in the music industry. Faria had her A-levels knocking on the door and soon after she appeared for her exams she announced that she had to leave for good as things were becoming too much for her to cope with.
We also realized then that anything could happen to our band. We were still students giving our A levels and some were planning to go abroad. After Faria, we needed to regroup and look for an alternative. We needed some one to replace her, some one with talent.
Yawar made a call to an old school buddy Nandito for rhythm; and as desperate as one can be for a Bassist, we found Daniel freshly from the failed “The Attempted Band’. We practiced for a few days but things didn’t work out between us and Daniel. He soon left. We continued practicing without a bassist.
Maher was not a happy fellow as he was always complaining about singing and playing at the same time. We realized then that we needed a vocalist so Maher could concentrate on his guitar.

Zohad was a very close friend of Maher and we initially met him at our first performance at Saber’s grandma’s house. We had seen him perform, but no one really stuck out their necks to express themselves. We decided to give him a try however Yawar at first was not very comfortable with it, as Zohad had no experience in singing. Our first gig with Zohad was at Nabila's birthday and it was a hit. We could now see Zohad’s potential, so we asked him to join the band. After that we did a couple of public concerts and our names kept growing strong in the public arena.
Our search for a good bassist was becoming increasingly difficult, and then Nandito suggested that we bring in his cousin Ratul for bass. Ratul played rhythm, but was keen in changing over to bass. Ratul was perfect once he got used to the bass. And girls we must not forget that this guy looks exactly like superman. We all remember Christopher Reeve, right! So we gave him the nick "Superman".
Ladies and gentleman… Nemesis was now complete! We were practicing hard doing shows in weddings and possibly anywhere we could. We did a lot of shows and our most memorable one was at The Indian Cultural Centre during the summer of 2000 with Aurthohin and Trikal.
We did concerts for a year and half until that day we were dreading had to come and hit us again. This time Yawar had to leave for England and Nandito for Australia. Thereafter, Nemesis stayed pretty much switched off, the band would just get back together every summer and winter when Yawar was in Dhaka for breaks. Nemesis had stalled for sometime. We needed to do somehting.

Almost a year and a half later with no activities in the band we decided to get a drummer and a guitarist to play in place of Yawar and Nandtio, while they were away completing their studies. Zohad used to see Omair and Dio jam around. They were quite impressive for their age, and most importantly the were very good people.......Nemesis people! So we decided to take them on board. Dio and Omair were very helpful and instrumental in bringing this band so far. Since then it’s been the 5 of them. Currently Nandito is in Canada and Yawar in England, and Nemesis would like to thank them for all the hard work and dedication that they’ve put into the band.
We hope to still give our fans the best we can. We pray that this band remains strong and establish through out. Our ultimate nightmare would be if the band had to split up for good. But let’s say even if it did we are certain that no matter where we are in the world we can still go back to unite and live the good music we perform.
