The nation celebrates today the 36th Independence Day and National Day
to pay tributes to the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for
independence.
Besides all celebration, this day will once again remind us that our
national independence came the hardest way imaginable. Millions had to
give their lives and countless women suffered indignities. Teeming
millions took refuge in India receiving hospitality in the friendly
country having been driven by genocide of an unparalleled magnitude.
We pay homage to all those who sacrificed their life including those
valiant Bangladeshi soldiers in Pakistani armed forces who revolted
and joined the liberation war.
