The Dhaka Project!

Our success depends on your kind donations to brighten up the lives of our children. At The Dhaka project, we seek: professionals as well volunteers, financial assistance, educational books, food for babies and children, Asian style clothing, toiletries, and anything that your heart desires to make a difference for the people of Dhaka and Bangladesh.

The Dhaka Project a Project from Rural Services Foundation.

Every child deserves the opportunity to build a full and rewarding life. At
The Dhaka Project, we maximize human potential. We try to bring hope to the children of Dhaka by providing sustainable skills and dignity needed to better their lives. We envision lifetime transformation. The site has been designed to provide you with a quick insight into our
work, the people and lives involved and our progress against our ambitions. We hope you find it informative and helpful. If you have any queries,
please feel free to contact us.

Using local economy and providing support longevity
Would you like to help?
31 US dollars feeds a child for one month
150 US dollars is the a full year of education
223 US dollars provides one room for a family, including electricity and gas costs for a whole year

Future Goals

1. Raise enough money [$1 million US] to buy a plot of land and build a
school in Dhaka for 1000 children for primary/secondary/pre-university
education + vocational skills training.

2. Continue to provide food, shelter, clothing, education and medical
care to the children under the care of The Dhaka Project.

3. Find ways and means to generate revenue so that The Dhaka Project
can, over time, become financially self-sufficient eg retail shop selling
used donated clothes, catering of lunch meals to office workers, sell
dresses/handbags/ladies purse made by sewing school ...

4. Inculcate in the children at a young age a caring concern for the
environment through programmes like neighbourhood clean-up day,
installing water wells for the community, setting up public lavatories for
the community, shower facilites, tree-planting, solar panels, clean
up the lakes.

5. Open a Medical Centre for the slums.

We do welcome volunteers to come visit us in Dhaka. To get an idea of
the kind of work volunteers might like to be involved in, please visit our website The Dhaka Project, and under "latest news" at the bottom
of the page, you can read a story by a volunteer visitor. This story gives
an outline of the kind of volunteer work that a visitor can do. You can
read further our newsletters to find out about the experiences of other volunteers. We are also open to suggestions from visitors too.

Volunteers pay for all their own expenses [airtickets/hotel accomodation/meals/local transport costs/visa fees/vaccinations etc] as we
are a charity-related organisation that depends on financial donations from the public to help see us through the monthly expenses of looking after some 700 poor children.

The duration of volunteer visits depend upon the time available of the visitor and the nature of the work the volunteer wishes to do. We can work out an arrangement to serve mutual needs. The timing can also be mutally agreed upon, but of course during the school vacation break and the children are on holiday, that might not be the best time for a visit.

Visit visas can be arranged through the local Bangladeshi consulate in your country [if there is one] and our sponsor in Dhaka can arrange for you to receive an electronic invitation letter to visit + the company's certificate of registration. These documents are needed when you apply for a visit visa ie if your passport requires such a visa. A check on the Bangladeshi consulate
can clarify that.

Please keep in mind european citizens can get a landing permit for 15 days on arrivals for 50 us dollars

I do hope I have given you you sufficient information. If you need more, please write. We can look forward to welcoming you to Dhaka.
