Bandarban District


Ninety-two kilometer from Chittagong by metalled road. Bandarban is the district headquarters of the Bandarban Hill District.
Lots of hills and Waterfalls, River Sangu, Lakes and the tribal culture are the main attraction of Bandarban .




Bandarban mostly consists of forests and hills.The highest peak of Bangladesh-Tahjindong (4632 ft) is located in the Bandarban district. Main rivers are Shankha (Sangu), Matamuhuri and Bakkhali. The four major mountain ranges of the district are the Meranja, Wailatong, Tambang and Politai. Bagakain or Baga Lake is notable.


The area of Bandarban town is 51.80 sq km.



Bandarban is the home-town of the Bohmong Chief who is the head of the Mogh tribe. The Moghs are of Myanmar origin and Buddhists by religion. Jovial and carefree by nature, the Moghs are simple and hospitable people. Bandarban is also the home of the Murangs who are famous for their music and dance.




Main Attraction:-
Chimbuk:
Chimbuk hill is one of the major attractions of Bandarban. You can enjoy the journey to Chimbuk Hill by jig jag hilly roads. It’s the third highest mountain in Bangladesh of approx. 3000 ft height.
You can go to Chimbuk from bandarban ....by zeep...but remember that you have to wake up early in the morning or it will be a shit journey.

You will find some resort in Chimbuk that will give you the pure taste of nature.......just like the following place...

If you take the prior permission from Roads and Highway Department you can spent a night in the rest house on the top of Chimbuk hill. If you stay there a night, you will remember your stay for your whole life with the calmness of nature hearing sometimes the wild animals squalling.
Ruma:
Ruma is another hill town on the same rout of Chimbuk. If you wish to visit Ruma, then 01st go to Ruma spend some time there and then come back to Chimbuk Hill.
Shailapropat:
You can enjoy the Shailapropat a waterfall in Bandarban. Its also a tourist attraction of waterfall surrounded by hills & forest; be carefully while you go to Shailapropat - the rocky path way is very slippery, if you are not cautious there is a good chance to sleep & make an accident there.
Meghla:
Beautiful spot where you can enjoy boat or speedboat riding on the lake Meghla. If you are lucky you may see the wild animals in the forest. There are small shades in this spot to protect you from rains in the season of monsoon and from the hit of the Sun in hot summer days. A beautiful hanging wooden bridge enhances the beauty of this spot. In one side there are some constructions and facilities for the tourists like tower, restaurant while on the other side is wild life, natural forest and hills. In the town you can visit the house where the king of tribe Chakma lives and from there you can visit the archeological museum of Bandarban. In this museum you will find the archeological history of the tribal life and the tribes of hill areas of Bandarban. The museum authority has set up various tribal houses in the museum, which will give you a brief idea of kinds of tribal houses, their design and architectural structures.



Sangu River:
Ask any rickshaw or take a walk to any of the GHAT from anywhere in Bandarban city. From there you can hire a boat for a journey on River sangu.I assure that you will have some real fun....



Kiang:
In Bandarban city ask any taxi driver for a Kiang that is on the top of a hill.....
I can't give you any name of that because i don't know actually...but once i was there..that's why am telling you.
Just try it !!!
Tribal life:
You can visit the tribal village not so far from bandarban city ....i prefer a walk for that..... you will enjoy the trubal life...



Others:
If you can go there before pohela boishakh...you can enjoy the famous 'pani khela' of the tribal people.
How to go Bandarban:
From Dhaka you have to go to chittagong first. Then go to Bohaddarhat bus station. You will find there bus survice to Bandarban. It will take maximum 3 hours to Bandarban by bus.
