Feb 13(BSS)- With a fading winter bidding farewell, the spring has arrived from today with Pahela Falgun, the first day of the Bangla calendar, renewing hopes for regeneration of the nature worn by some mild coldwaves. Festivities will mark the day across the country with different organisations chalking out programmes to celebrate the arrival of the spring. Traditionally young girls put on yellow red bordered sarees with some flowers on their hair to welcome the spring. The winter, however has not been officially over though the cuckoos went on announcing the advent of the spring on some tree lined streets of the capital since yesterday afternoon with the northern winds replaced by the southerly breezes. The mornings will bear the touches of the fading winter with some cool air, making room for the rising day temperatures slowly for the transition, Samarendra Karmakar, Deputy Director in-charge of the meteorological department, told the BSS. We shall count the winter lingering on till the end of February, he said. However, the last days of February may witness the arrival of the season of norwesters, a little early though they are scheduled to blow in full swing from March. We shall than go for cyclone watch from late April as they may start brewing in the Bay of Bengal, Karmakar added.

Pohela phalgun - the day we usher ‘Boshonto’ - which symbolizes life, and Valentines Day - which symbolizes love just passed us. How will/did you celebrate these two occasions?
