To me making fun is good if the person on the other side is OK with it too. Sometimes it’s hard to say what you said just for fun did hurt someone or they were OK with it. I guess you me most of us here have encountered this situation. This one is true for all members (including staff)

An ideal moderator should post like a normal member i.e. people can't differentiate between them and a normal member and in special circumstances act as a moderator (or in other words use power ) Trust me we don’t encounter these special cases that often. I am not considering things like merging, moving posts etc… these can be done behind the scene without hampering the flow.

Many of the staffs might disagree with me about the comment below but it’s my personal opinion - I think sometimes a bit off topic (but not too much, like only two people conversing continuously is very boring to others....) is necessary for interaction. But Excess of anything is bad.

This thread is good in a sense we get feedbacks both good and bad. Good ones like the ones mentioned by Chocolate and Dark_saint encourage us to do more for the community and the bad ones make us aware what the members are thinking about us and what we should not be doing. Everyone should share their valuable comment here

**Just a side note if anyone thinks a moderator has done something wrong please report it.

The posting deal brought in by Chocolate is fantastic ! It gets very difficult, reading all the posts and justifying and cross-matching even after doing everyd day stuff (job/study/etc) but a nice point-out indeed Chocolate !

Something I would like to add:

- moderators should never take things personally (Note: not saying any one does or did or from any experience ) . specially on the Internet and forums. In real life we have the option to choose whom to be friends with and whom to avoid.

however, moderators are stuck in this one ! I know this get messy but the key to a healthy online life is to keep things as impersonal as possible !

- To "Golpo" (already pointed out by Chocolate ) and to eliminate all nuisance without looking back


Oh almost forgot !

Just a thought but Golpo has been running for a pretty long time and its grown popularity among a wide range of well mannered and not so well mannered, intelligent and not-so-intelligent Internet users from Bangladesh and abroad. Which gives me an impression that Moderators have been doing a pretty good job. At the end of the day, it is the dark side of the force that leaves base (.. may I recall our good friend IbliSH ! )

A title like this : " What should be the ideal duty of a GOLPO moderator ? " would be applicable if we were just starting out and had no rep, etc.

@drukcrunk bhaiya: I dont understand why the title seems offensive to you. No offense, but please try to think fresh bhaiya, if there was any misunderstanding between any mod and member, forget it when you are posting here. It was a simple thread where I just encouraged members to list the duties of a mod in general. Since golpo has been running a long time, ofcourse its the members and moderator's coopreation that gave this present shape.

Once again guys, stop being over critical, stop over analyzing what mods have done and what they did not and just list some thing that we think mods should be aware of or should do.

For example you can say:
"Golpo mods should be aware of the fact that they need to come up some new ideas to bring back some old members"

instead of saying... "golpo mods did this and this...the title is so and so...the memberes are so and so"

Please pay attention and dont be off topic.

My correct English typing with minimal spelling mistakes or the absense of in my posts ?

How can you expect someone to say something thoughtful without being critical ? This is a very important thread - please stop telling members not to use their brains. Most members carry one.

By the way, why do you keep saying "no-offense" in your posts ? Do you think they contain offensive material ? If yes, do you intentionally include them in your posts ? Or do you say so and try to be rude ?

No your correct English typing certainly did not make me think that u r offended. I just wanted to make sure that I am not being rude on anyone. Thats how everyone says when they do not mean to be rude, at least I think so. You have correct English typing and I am pretty sure you have correct English understanding too.


I did not ask the members to stop using their brain. I asked them not to be critical on what the mods have done already , coz i think they shud rather focus on what they should do in future.

No I said "no offense" coz I was telling you that you are not suppose to analyze in detail about the moderator's duty....please list couple duties and that should serve us well. And ofcourse, I am aware of the fact that "no offense" is used when someone does not try to be rude...instead of trying hard to be rude. I hope my poor english would serve the purpose of making you understand what I wanted to say.

Thank you for justifying your previous post Delilah It was rather the absence of proper English usage that made me go through a few delusions.
Your last post wiped all of that away and I suggest you try holding on to posts like these ! ( Encouraging members for healthy posts )

One more thing that is bothering me. If a member does not think of what a moderator has done previously - how can he/she advice on how they should act in the future ?

Are the moderators not acting at all ? Or could this thread be a guide to the future moderators ?

I think till now, the moderators and supermoderators set their own rules and duties.

is misleading to the max.

Do you think if the Moderators set their own rules there would be any annoying members left in this forum ? Of course there are rules Delilah ! And if you see closely, they try their best to abide by them. Just like Icy bhai mentioned, Moderators and just loyal Golpo members, humans with brains, students with studies and engineers with jobs and they dedicate a Lot of their time for Golpo - which would be perhaps very hard for me and you.
