Teacher forced to stare at wall

A mayor in Chile faces the sack after he made a teacher stare at a wall for a week.

Maite Larrondo, the mayor of La Cruz, sacked teacher Patricio Gonzalesm from his school for criticising him.

Instead, he gave him a desk job in his office, reports Las Ultimas Noticias.

Mr Gonzales said: "When I asked what my job was going to be, they simply told me to stare at a wall.

"I then put my desk in front of the wall and have looked at it since then."

The MPs of the city are now voting to try and remove Mayor Larrondo from office.

MP Marco Henriquez Ominami said: "This is a weird case that needs fast action."
