The *Bangladeshi* society. This society has its pro's and cons - cons are the ones which are mostly noticeable in our eyes and which seem never to change no matter how advanced our world gets.
So lets have it - What do you think does our Society lacks in and could Pride in ? Should it stay the same or change for the sake of the new generation ?
Let's discuss about the cultural influence - the religious values - social and ethical values existing in our society. Ei deshe jah Paap Gunno, Onno deshe Punno Tai .... |

Lacks: Sense of community living
Prides: Liberation war, hospitality, over eating
Society isnt static, in course of time it remodels and takes new shapes accordingly. |

we take too much pride in the Liberation war;yet even after that our history remains distorted and the books politicized.
it also indicates that in spite of the fact that we are somewhat liberal we aren't that progressive. Our society has many backward elements even after so much economic progress.
backbiting, gossiping about others, hypocrisy seems to be ever present in greater part of the society. |

to speak the truth we have ahorrible lack of unity, rarely do we stand up together for a cause..only occassionally the larger part of society makes their voices heard.we are too busy complaining rather than doing something, and i include mysself in this.
the fact that we are passionate about 1971,gives me hope..but i fear that if nothing is done to pass on the history, the net generation won't share this passion.so often we see surveys in news paper that say children don't know what happenned on 16th december..which scares me badly.
i like that family values are so important for us,i hope we don't become detached from ur families like in western cultures.
and i love..when the whole country dresses in red and white in pohela boishakh,in yellow on pohela falgun,in red and green for bijoy dibosh..to some they seem like external display only..but still..to watch the roads flooded in the same colour..makes me happy. if i could hold on through the tears and the laughter..
would it be beautiful?or just a beautiful disaster..? |

By that I mean, we all need to grow up sometime and we will not get much done if we stick together as a family. Someone said that we complain but never do anything about it no matter how big it is. The way I see it, we first need to know how to work for ourselves or stand up for ourselves before we do it "united" or just for others. And living in the suburbs of Toronto, trust me when I say we "westerners" are very good at working together since we have enough confidence in ourselves.
Cons:
1. Our stereotypes about Westerners always doing things the wrong way. News flash! We are doing a lot better than you are..... maybe its cause we do everything "wrong"
2. We use too much oil in our food. (that **** sucks)
3. Our habit of acting cool even though we are actually very gay (no offense to any homosexuals in here)
Pros:
1. Our hospitality (that is going away apparently) I remember when we used to have random poor dudes at our doorstep and mom ALWAYS offered them food back in BD. Now I hear from my cousins that no one really takes care of others that much- which sucks. It's funny cause I have a Russian friend (his name is Max and he is really hot! His real name is Maximus Decimus Karkov... a name for warriors I say!)who was very surprised when mom told him to sit down and eat dinner with us. Same with most of my other friends!
2. ???
3. PROFIT - 394,586 people agree with me. |

| I disagree. No hospitality isn't decreasing.society's a bit broken but still our friendly and hospitable attitude is there .your cousins don't represent or speak for all of Bangladesh.
after the hurricane struck we saw slum dwellers giving aid to the victims along with everyone. But true sometimes we do hear or see of people who really do terrible, heartless things. Quote: | in one part of the society change is occuring too rapidly..and people are drifting away from traditions at a very fast pace.but i guess it's normal..society must move. | for the sake of keeping pace with the rest of the world we need to change for progress ,for economic reasons but that doesn't mean we will ditch our values and by values I don't mean some of the extremely strict rules we have here. |
