Gardening - is there an ethical issue?

We do gardening, beautify our courtyard. But is there an issue?
I think there is. It hurts a living tree when we cut it's branches to look it better or symmetric. I don't mind cutting vegetables for food as it is the rule of nature and forms the food circle. But is beatification a good enough reason for which we can cause these trees pain? I want to know what do you think about it.
