Question Movies used for Education

... i am not sure if this is a valid thread but still taking a chance hehe .

anyway, before any of you post anything, i have a question for you all out of curiosity.
in Bangladesh, would movies as in Hollywood movies, for instance, The Matrix be used for educational purposes?
(i have a feeling of no but i need to know for a fact ).
so anyway, if it's not, then do you think some commercial or general Hollywood movies like those would be good for educational purposes? why or why not?

Well, Education can have different dimensions. Matrix shows us an wild imagination on how a world of virtual reality can be. We can get ideas from movies. Social drama, romantic movies each of the genre comes up with variety of scenerios and there's a lot to grab. The more you watch, the more you know and learn. But it sucks to watch a movie with an intention to learn. But when you watch it, absent mindedly you are likely to enrich your knowledge base.

oppose me and i will try to come up with examples next time

I agree with habijabi on his described dimension.

As there are several dimensions let me describe one. After S.S.C i took a course of english in British Council. They used to taught us the listening section through a movie. The Movie was "Men In Black" rather than some boaring documentary. The reason is that grab everyone's attention. And they succeded with full marks.I found that i am trying heart and soul to understand everyword of it.That was the start for me.

So Yes movies can be used for educational purposes like above scenario and i think "The Matrix" can be a very good choice in this regard.

speaking from experience ... i think it's quite enjoyable to watch movies in class with soo many people!
i watched Mean Girls, Coach Carter, The Matrix, Bend it like Beckham, Farhenheit 9/11, Bowling for Colombine and tonssss of other movies in class for which we had to do assignments later. but you know something? not once did i take notes on them cuz ami movie fun er moto korei dekhsi and abinosshor, it's not about remembering the words; the key is to have fun. taholei movie mone thakbe . i don't think it's that hard to remember examples from movies. i really like the idea of learning through movies. ami always class e enjoy korsi movies, hehhehe.

Ahem Ahem i think you misunderstood me, i didn't mean that i tried to remember words (Are you kidding me?) from movies.I was just making a point that movies can be used to teach Listening portion of any language. At that time my English listening kinda sucked, and the movie was Men IN Black(will smith also should be named as motor mouth, still couldn't understand him properly), so actually i was having great difficulties in understanding what they are saying. But the important thing i would like to highlight that i wanted to know what they are saying because i really found the movie interesting , and i was trying like hell which was proved useful later.

And yeah girls are not always mean but most of the time they are.

i'll ask something and then give you a suggestion.
1. do you guys have something called Closed Captioning or Subtitles? if yes, then turn that feature on .
2. use the internet if it's an overnight assignment! IMDB works best! ... or Rotten Tomatoes.

it's as simple as that !
