Muslim Girls in Foreign Schools

A thought that triggered from a story my english tutor told me that other day:

at my tutors school, there is a muslim girl (from iran/iraq, not sure) who covers. Its a girls school, so when she's in a class with a female teacher, she keeps the cover off, but once a male teacher enters she quickly covers herself. She asked my tutor to knock before entering any class if he knew she was in there, so she can prepare herself before he comes in. His opinion was, that he isnt doing anything wrong socially or culturally according to this country, so he refuses to knock

I told my parents this. Me and my mum thought he was right, that the girl cant expect that from a teacher when the majority of the girls in her school are NOT muslim. if she needs to be covered infront of men, she should have her hejab on all the time

This debate is NOT about religion. its about the situation presented. do you think my teacher, or any male teacher, should knock, or should not??

It's in a foreign school.It is on the Muslim girl's part to be obliged to adhere to some aspects of the lifestyle in the west.she should wear the hijab at all times.
your father got some good points but that can be expected from a school in a Muslim country not from a western one.

in my opinion, if the teacher is tutoring her privately, he should knock before entering the room.
but since thats not the case, knocking before entering a class sounds ridiculous. isnt there a class routine or something ? if the girl is that much conscious, she should know the probable times of his entrance.

From what you described. It's a problem with one girl. Obviously class room is not a private place. It looks odd for a teacher to knock before entering. I think the teacher is right.
