This was the first film directed by the Weitz brothers. The movie is centered around four boys who make a pact to lose their virginity by their high school graduation, and their subsequent adventures. It was a box-office hit and spawned two direct sequels: American Pie 2 in 2001, American Wedding in 2003
one spin-off film American Pie: Band Camp, which was a direct to video release, in 2005. Another sequel, titled American Pie 5: The Naked Mile began filming in May of 2006 American Pie Directed by Paul Weitz, Chris Weitz Produced by Chris Moore, Chris Weitz Written by Adam Herz Distributed by Universal Pictures Release date July 9, 1999 Running time 95 minutes Budget ~ US$11,000,000 Plot Outline: Four teenage boys enter a pact to lose their virginity by prom night. American Pie 2 American Pie 2 is the 2001 sequel to the comedy film American Pie. It was written by Adam Herz (characters, story, screenplay) and David H. Steinberg (story), and directed by James B. Rogers. The film picks up the story of the four friends from the first film as they reunite during the summer after their first year of college. It was released in the United States on August 10, 2001, and grossed over $145 million in the USA and $142 million overseas on a budget of $30 million. Its sequel is American Wedding (2003). Directed by James B. Rogers Produced by Chris Moore, Warren Zide Written by Adam Herz, David H. Steinberg Distributed by Universal Pictures Release date August 10, 2001 Running time 108 minutes Budget ~ US$30,000,000 Plot Outline: The continuing bawdy adventures of a group of friends reuniting after their first year of college. American Wedding American Wedding (also known as American Pie: The Wedding overseas or American Pie 3) is the 2003 sequel to the comedy films American Pie (1999) and American Pie 2 (2001). It was written by Adam Herz and directed by Jesse Dylan. The story has the friends from the first two films getting together again, this time to celebrate the wedding of Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). The film was released in the United States on August 1, 2003, and grossed $104 million in the USA and $123 million overseas on a budget of $55 million. The film is notable for the absences of several of its supporting characters from the first two films, including: Oz (Chris Klein), Sherman (Chris Owen), Heather (Mena Suvari), Vicky (Tara Reid), Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), and Jessica (Natasha Lyonne). This is because the creators of the previous movies noted it was near impossible to create interesting story lines for all of the main characters. It is also the first (and only) film in the series to be shot in 2.35 format aspect ratio. Directed by Jesse Dylan Produced by Chris Moore, Warren Zide Written by Adam Herz Distributed by Universal Pictures Release date August 1st, 2003 Running time 96 minutes Budget ~ US$55,000,000 Plot Outline: The third film in the American Pie series deals with the wedding of Jim and Michelle and the gathering of their families and friends, including Jim's old friends from high school and Michelle's little sister. |

Adam Herz didn't write anymore after the American Wedding, hence, the flame of real hillarious movie just dropped or my interest for the series just ended after American Wedding.
I personally believe that the real art of comedy is not to extend the laughter after a certain period. For example, I see many people continue to repeat the punchline of the joke for twice or thrice. By that time, people stops laughing and the flame of that comic is already gone. And people at that point become annoyed for this repeatation.
Good joke is what you hear and don't ask for it to be repeated.
Pie 1 was a bit explicit but all through funny. Second time around explicity has reduced. But 3rd one took a new anf final turn for the last time. And I couldn't stop laughing from the Part 1 to Part 3. For instance, Nadia's randevous with Jim and live porn show. Jim's quick take off and blast before even starting! AWSOME! But they all end up achieving their GOAL one way or another.
In part 2 Jim's mix up of Lotion with Superglue....man!!!!! 3 friend's desparate attempt to find and prove the 2 girls being lesbians
In part 3 Jim's wedding......Jim's ruining his first cake
Really I don't think I saw any unique plot build up in 4th installment or will let us see in 5th one either.
I like to think American Pie as Trilogy and not more than that. |
