recently - Panam city (at narayaganj-gonna very famous)- bd govt..now started to repair ths ancient city..
let have a look
As the former capital of Bengal state, Sonargaon chronicles a broad sweep of Bangladeshi history,
from the rise of Sultanate dynasties to the period of British colonial rule, evident in the style of
architecture. Its oldest structure is the early fifteenth-century tomb of Sultan Ghiyasuddin Azam Shah.
A few tombs and mosques are preserved from the pre-Mughal period and later constructions follow
similar types. The Sonargaon historic complex encompasses several grand Mughal monuments,
including the Sonakanda fort, the Daishmands tomb complex, and Abdul Hamid’s mosque.
British colonial architecture preserved in Sonargaon-Panam includes Bara Sardar Bari,
the Ananda Mohan Piddar House, and other street-front houses.
A lack of sufficient funding has led to a crisis in efforts to preserve the monuments
of the Sonargaon historic complex. Threats to the site include vandalism, unauthorized occupation,
illegal development, poor maintenance, flooding, and vulnerability to earthquakes.
