President Iajuddin Ahmed yesterday appointed five more advisers, completing the reconstitution of the council of advisers to the caretaker government headed by Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed.
Three of the newly appointed advisers were sworn in yesterday, five days after the president administered the oath of office to the chief adviser on January 12.

The president will administer the oath of office to two other advisers--Dr Iftekar Ahmed Chowhdury, a career diplomat and currently Bangladesh ambassador to the United Nations, and Fayez Khan, an IT specialist and consultant, later. They could not be sworn in yesterday as they were abroad.

Iftekar Ahmed Chowhdury is a brother-in-law of Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed.

The appointment of Faiz Khan as adviser to the caretaker government headed by Fakhruddin Ahmed may create controversy over the composition of the interim cabinet because of the controversy he created while working as consultant in the much-talked-about machine-readable passport project during the immediate-past BNP government.
Khan, who was made consultant for the Tk 1,500-crore project by the home affairs ministry, reportedly failed to handle the project of national importance, eventually leading to its cancellation by the government.
Controversy surrounding the project surfaced from the beginning when Faiz Khan, although declared ‘unfit’ by a selection committee, was appointed consultant by the home ministry.
