Tarique under treatment in prison hospital for pain in waist and forehead: DIGP


UNB, DHAKA


Tarique Rahman, the senior joint secretary
general of BNP, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka central jail
hospital as he feels pain in his waist and forehead, said a high
official of prisons.

Deputy Inspector General (prison) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told
private television channels that Trique would not get division in
prison under provision of the jail code.

“He will be staying in jail as a normal prisoner,” the DIG said,
dismissing some reports that he would be given division because of
his social status.

He said Tarique does not come under set categories that determine the
division for a prisoner. He is not the recipient of any state awards
like Bir Pratik, Bir Uttam or Ekhushey Padak.

Tarique will be staying in hospital as long as required, said the
DIGP.

Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s elder son, Tarique was sent to
jail Monday night after four days remand when he was quizzed at the
joint interrogation cell for his alleged involvement in corruption.
