Don’t get confused guys. Logically two ant viruses, if working at the same time, may conflict and crash the system. But it will occur if you try to install or run two anti viruses which uses the same method of virus scanning. As an example – McAfee and Norton. You will not be able to install both the AVs on the same PC under same user privilege. The AV you are going to install later, will give a warning of the presence of another AV and it will suggest you to uninstall the first one.

McAfee and AVG use different scanning method and they are compatible with each other. They will never conflict and in some cases, one of them mostly AVG may disable McAfee AV for sometimes. It will give no error; you will only get an ashy M icon of McAfee, which indicates that McAfee AV is not working. You could enable it from the McAfee consol and it will run smoothly.

Most of the cases, when McAfee detects a virus and waiting for an action to be taken, AVG will stop all access on that virus. AVG is much faster to detect viruses and it has a 100% virus detection rate where McAfee has 94%~96%. Norton has 97% virus detection rate.

Using 2 AVs are resource dependent and if you have a lower PC configuration, it could crash. It may happen not for the conflict of both AVs but the failure to get demanding system resource.

When I was in BD, I used a PC with P III 733 MHz, 256 MB of RAM. Now I have a better DELL Brand PC with P IV 3.2 GHz Dual Core CPU with 1 GB of RAM. But I’m using the combination of two AVs as AVG and McAfee from last 5 yrs. And in here I assembles and setup hundreds of PCs with different hardware configuration and most of them have these two AVs running with no difficulties at all.

And yes, I’m using McAfee Internet Security Suit with three features enabled (Anti Virus, Firewall, Privacy Service), McAfee Anti spyware, Spy Sweeper, AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition (with no Firewall) in my PC. I’ve disabled Windows Firewall and Security Centre. I usually use my PC for at least 18 hrs a day, and I have an ADSL 512 Kb Wireless internet connection to get access to the web.

I’m a computer System Administrator in profession and a Web Developer. I’m a graphic Designer also.

I haven’t got any problems using those two AVs till now. But if you have any, please share it in here. Thanks all for the contribution.
