i just came across this article while doing my project on the teenage brain. according to it, a lot of the info that the general public knows about the brain is wrong ... myth basically.
so, here are 5 myths and 5 truths! quite interesting i must say!
1. MYTH: We use only 10% of our brains.
TRUTH: Brain-imaging scans show that we use most of our brain most of the time.
2. MYTH: Personality depends on which side of the brain is dominant. Creatives were thought to be right-brain dominant and logical thinkers left-brain dominant.
TRUTH: Now scans show that the two brain hemispheres work together.
3. MYTH: Men are more intelligent than women. On average, men have larger brains than women.
TRUTH: There is very little relationship between brain size and intelligence.
4. MYTH: Memory operates like a muscle, and can be strengthened like one.
TRUTH: Memory is not a muscle, but works by strengthening particular connections in the brain.
5. MYTH: Once we are adults, our brains do not change.
TRUTH: Stimulation through learning increases blood flow to the neurons and boosts brain efficiency throughout life.
