BDR-BSF exchange gunfire on Thakurgaon border
UNB, Thakurgaon
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) today again traded gunfire across Paria border in Baliadangi upazila early today.
There was, however, no report of any casualty in the gun battle that took place at about 6:00am.
BDR sources said the BSF men of 47 Kishanganj Battalion, without any provocation, started firing towards Bangladesh territory creating panic among villagers in the area.
BDR returned the fire, triggering a gun battle between the two border guards.
Some 50 rounds of bullet were fired during the gunfight between the two sides, the villagers said.
Earlier, Bangladeshi farmers were forced to flee from their crop fields, as the BSF personnel fired four bullets targeting them in Kantibhita village on Thursday afternoon.
BDR also fired eight bullets in retaliation. None was injured in the firing.
Meanwhile, the body of Bangladeshi Anwarul, killed by BSF on Haripur border early Thursday, was not handed over to Bangladesh authorities until 4:00pm today.
